Why We Built This Site
Virginia offers several public and consent-based access routes, but each route answers a different question. James City County Police holds its incident and arrest narratives. Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail creates booking and custody records. Court clerks maintain filed charges, docket events, dispositions, and certified orders. Virginia State Police operates CCRE, the mailed SP-167 request process, and the public Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Because Williamsburg appears in postal addresses and combined court names while remaining an independent city, this site also stresses the correct locality and custodian at each step.

What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, with no connection to a Virginia court, police department, sheriff, jail authority, or state agency. That creates firm limits:
- We cannot issue a certified order, rap sheet, police report, or booking record
- We cannot submit a Virginia FOIA request or court petition for a visitor
- We cannot run an official state background check or retrieve a person's record
- We cannot interpret a charge, warrant, disposition, or relief rule as legal advice
- We cannot promise that an agency's address, fee, hours, or procedure has not changed
An official copy must come from the office that maintains it, such as County Police, the court clerk, Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, or Virginia State Police.
Search Partners
Outside providers power some search boxes. Each provider controls its service, prices, results, and data practices. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may generate a referral fee that supports free access to this resource. We neither set a partner's charges nor control the records it returns.
