Official James City County criminal records must be requested from the office that created or maintains them. This private resource cannot obtain, correct, certify, or remove a record. The contacts below route court files to the shared court clerks, police narratives to James City County Police, booking questions to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, and statewide history requests to Virginia State Police.

James City County has no general Sheriff records division for police incident or booking files. County Police holds the usual local incident and arrest narratives, while the Sheriff chiefly handles courthouse security and civil process. County administration accepts Virginia FOIA requests through its Public Records Request Center, by email at foia.coordinator@jamescitycountyva.gov, by fax at 757-253-6833, or at 101 Mounts Bay Road, Building D, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Police and constitutional officers remain custodians of their own records.
